(continued from page 1) becoming a tremendous leader at Little Lights and in her community. She has made a tremendous commitment to change her life and to impact those around her. Check out page 7 for a fuller profile of Crystal. " Our long-term vision is a day when youth who grow up in our programs become senior staff, join our Board of Directors, or even take my job as Executive Director. Dwaine Brown also grew up at Little Lights programs since 1997. He turned twenty-five this October and works full-time at a local non-profit, but helps lead our Boys Night leadership group on Monday nights. He leads the volunteers and the group of boys to bond together, develop positive friendships, and teaches on the importance of character. Dwaine and Crystal are known and trusted members of the community. Many of the youth respond to Dwaine and Crystal truly as an older brother and older sister who understand their experience and challenges. Indigenous leaders like Dwaine and Crystal bring a greater sense of hope to our young people that leadership is not only for the "outsider," but for them as well. Crystal put it well when she said, "I get the best of both worlds, because I not only grew up in the program, but now I get to work and give back. I now know how it feels to be on the other side, giving." Our philosophy is to have a learning attitude toward the community while providing high quality, holistic programs, caring relationships, and developing leaders from within. Our vision is a day when youth who grew up in our programs become senior staff, join our Board of Directors, or even take my job as Executive Director. This is a long-term process with many ups and downs. At Little Lights, lives are being changed day by day, relationship by relationship. I am grateful for your interest and support of our work, thank you! Steve Park is the Executive Director of Little Lights Urban Ministries.
