Volunteer opportunities LITTLE LIGHTS URBAN MINISTRIES 760 7th St SE Washington DC 20003 Phone: 202-548-4021 Fax: 202-544-7508 E-mail: littlelights@yahoo.com Website: http://www.littlelights.org fall 2006 highlights • We took 9 kids to see the Nutcracker performed by the Washington Ballet at THEARC in SE, DC. • One of our volunteers blessed Steve and Mary with a one night stay at Westin Hotel in DC, and two volunteers blessed us with free dinner, and 3 volunteers helped to babysit our kids overnight! • We have over 200 Christmas gifts promised to be donated for the Christmas party. • Our mentoring program is starting to grow with 2 new mentors. • Our new computer lab is up and running with 5 computers thanks to Eric Lee and Kyung Park's donation of time and hardware. Additional Opportunities We are looking for volunteers, who could help improve the creative art and music content of our programs. Additionally, any skill you can provide is much appreciated: construction, administrative, IT, graphic design, fundraising, etc. For more information contact Rob Kim, volunteer@littlelights.org. Our full-time staff attended the CCDA conference in Philadelphia. • After-School Programs: Spring semester programs begin the week of Jan. 8. Homework Club Safe and supportive study time Mon-Thu, 4-6:15 pm Reading/Math Heroes One-to-one reading and math tutoring program Tues & Thu, 6:15-8 pm Boys' and Girls' Night Group devotions and activities Wed, 6:30-8 pm Tiny Lights Bible study and activities for ages 5-8 Friday, 4:30-6 pm Choir Practice Singing, dancing, worship Friday, 4:30-6 pm Youth Night Focusing on teen issues Friday, 6-8 pm Mentoring Life skills, communication and encouragement • A group from University of Maryland Navigators took the younger kids to the zoo. • Groups from Gaithersburg Church of the Nazarene and National Student Leadership helped clean out the Hope Center Basement. • A group from New Covenant Fellowship Church provided Thanksgiving meals for 30 kids.
